Elversberg race into a 3-0 lead and hold off a two-penalty Augsburg comeback to win 4-3
Lukas Petkov, Lasse Günther and Maximilian Rohr had Elversberg 3-0 up inside half an hour, Fabian Rieder and Michael Gregoritsch scored penalties either side of the hour to pull Augsburg within one, but Frederik Schmahl's 89th-minute goal settled a seven-goal thriller.
Seven minutes in, Elversberg already had two goals — Lukas Petkov inside four minutes, Lasse Günther three later off a Maurice Krattenmacher pass — and by the half-hour mark it was three, Maximilian Rohr heading in a Felix Keidel delivery. Augsburg looked like they might not recover.
They almost did. Fabian Rieder scored a penalty in the ninth minute of first-half stoppage time, and Michael Gregoritsch converted another on 76 to make it 3-2. With Elversberg wobbling, substitute Frederik Schmahl restored the two-goal cushion on 89, volleying in off a Lukas Petkov assist, before Mert Kömür's stoppage-time finish gave the scoreline its final, dramatic shape: 4-3.
Form on both sides
The result keeps Elversberg's unpredictable season going — two wins, a draw and two losses in their previous five matches, with goals at both ends a running theme. Augsburg arrived on a similar run, two wins and two draws in their last five against a single defeat, and the two second-half penalties at least salvaged something from a game they were out of inside half an hour.
