Viking 3-3 Bayern Munich: ten-man Bayern held in Stavanger after Harry Kane double
Herman Haugen's 90th-minute equaliser completed a 3-3 draw for Viking against ten-man Bayern Munich, after Harry Kane's penalty and header had put the German side 2-1 up before Michael Olise was sent off.
Bayern Munich led this game twice, played the last 17 minutes with ten men, and still should have won it. Instead they leave Stavanger with a 3-3 draw, Viking's Herman Haugen scoring the equaliser in the 90th minute after Michael Olise's 73rd-minute red card left Vincent Kompany's side chasing the game a man light for the closing stages.
Viking were 2-0 up inside 38 minutes, Gianni Stensness heading in a Zlatko Tripic corner inside two minutes and Peter Christiansen adding a second from an Erik Botheim pass. Harry Kane pulled one back from the penalty spot early in the second half, then levelled with a header from a Joshua Kimmich cross in the 60th minute. Luis Díaz, set up by Konrad Laimer, put Bayern 3-2 ahead in the 71st minute — only for Olise to be sent off two minutes later, his second yellow card of the night arriving within a minute of his first. Viking made the extra man count in stoppage time, Tripic's second assist of the evening teeing up Haugen for the leveller that completed the comeback.
A chaotic second half, and a red card that changed everything
For an hour this looked like business as usual for Bayern: two goals down away from home, and still finding a way back through Kane. The sending-off changed the complexion of the game completely. Bayern had been pushing for a fourth goal when Olise picked up his two cautions inside 60 seconds of each other, and what had been a one-sided final third suddenly became an exercise in damage limitation — one Vincent Kompany's side narrowly failed. Bayern still finished with 66% of the possession and 15 corners to Viking's 7, numbers that reflect a team that dominated territory even while conceding the game's final goal.
Viking's European night to remember
A point against Bayern Munich is a landmark result for a club making its Champions League league-phase debut, and it arrives after an opening 1-3 defeat at VfB Stuttgart in which Viking at least scored through Tripic. Tripic's two assists here — for Stensness's opener and Haugen's equaliser — make him the architect of both of Viking's best moments in the competition so far, and SR-Bank Arena will have rarely seen a louder finish than the one that greeted Haugen's goal in stoppage time against one of the Champions League's most decorated clubs.
Bayern's perfect start undone, but not their season
Bayern had opened the league phase with a 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt and arrived in Norway unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions, two of them draws. Domestically they sit third in the Bundesliga on 11 points from five games, still well placed, and this result does not change that picture much — a draw away in a game reduced to ten men inside the last quarter of an hour is a defensible outcome, even if the manner of conceding a 90th-minute equaliser will frustrate Kompany more than the scoreline alone suggests.

What's next
Bayern take four points from their opening two Champions League matches into a Bundesliga campaign where they still sit third, chasing the sides above them. Viking, with a point from two games on their league-phase debut, will go into their remaining fixtures with real belief that European nights at SR-Bank Arena can produce more than damage limitation against the competition's bigger names.
