Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal: Declan Rice snatches a late draw to end Arsenal's winning run
Harry Kane's 61st-minute penalty had put Bayern Munich back in front at the Allianz Arena, but Declan Rice converted a Viktor Gyökeres cutback eight minutes from time to earn Arsenal a 2-2 draw that ends their perfect start to the Champions League league phase.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal shared the points in a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena, a result that ends Arsenal's perfect start to this season's Champions League league phase and keeps both clubs unbeaten through three matchdays of Europe's toughest single table.
Eberechi Eze put Arsenal ahead in the 25th minute, converting a Martin Ødegaard pass, before Alphonso Davies levelled for Bayern ten minutes later, set up by Harry Kane. Kane turned provider into scorer himself in the 61st minute, sending Bayern back in front from the penalty spot, only for Declan Rice to restore parity in the 82nd minute with a finish created by substitute Viktor Gyökeres. Kai Havertz and Ezri Konsa were both booked for Arsenal in the first half, in what was otherwise a game short on cards and long on chances at both ends.
Two unbeaten sides meet and stay that way
Arsenal had won both of their opening two Champions League matches, 1-0 away at Napoli and 3-0 at home to Lille, part of a run that also included four straight Premier League wins before a single defeat at Brighton interrupted it. Mikel Arteta's side arrived at the Allianz Arena sitting 2nd in the Premier League on 18 points from seven games and 8th in the 36-club Champions League table on a maximum six points, and this draw — their first dropped points in Europe this season — still leaves that unbeaten run in the competition intact, now stretched to three matches without a loss.
Bayern's own unbeaten run extends to a third match
For Bayern, who sit top of the Bundesliga on 14 points from six games with the division's best attacking record — 22 goals scored — this was a third successive Champions League match without defeat — a win over Bodø/Glimt on matchday 1 and a 3-3 draw at Viking on matchday 2 preceding this one. Conceding three goals away at Viking showed a side still capable of leaking goals even in a positive run, and having to come from behind twice against a side as well-organised as Arsenal fits that same pattern: goals have not been the problem for Kompany's team this season, defensive moments under pressure have.
Vinícius Jr. whistled, but that is a different stadium
This was a far friendlier reception for the home fans at the Allianz Arena than the one reported across town — or rather across the continent — on the same night, with Real Madrid supporters whistling their own forward Vinícius Júnior despite a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig. No such tension surrounded either side here: Bayern's crowd got two goals from two different scorers and a penalty won by their own striker, while Arsenal's late leveller kept alive a European campaign that still has five matchdays to run before the top-eight cut-off that sends a club straight into the round of 16.

What's next
Neither result changes the shape of the 36-club table much on its own, but both clubs head into matchday 4 still unbeaten in the competition — Arsenal with two wins and a draw, Bayern with a win and two draws — and both still well placed for a top-eight finish that would avoid the February knockout play-off round altogether. Domestically, Bayern stay top of the Bundesliga and Arsenal 2nd in the Premier League, each with their attention now turning back to league business before their next European test.
