VfB Stuttgart ended a two-game losing run with a 2-0 win at Paderborn, Jeff Chabot and Chris Führich both scoring from an Angelo Stiller assist — one before half-time, one late on — to see off a Paderborn side still searching for their first win in five.

Stiller sets up both goals

Jeff Chabot opened the scoring in the 25th minute, converting an Angelo Stiller delivery to put Stuttgart ahead, and the visitors held that lead for the rest of the first half and the bulk of the second. Chris Führich made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute, again picked out by Stiller, to put the result beyond doubt with referee Felix Zwayer's whistle not far off.

Marvin Pieringer picked up Paderborn's only booking of the afternoon, in the 45th minute, in what was otherwise a clean game refereed by Felix Zwayer. Two assists from open play in the same match is a notable return for Stiller, and worth watching against the Bundesliga's assist charts once the round is fully in.

Stuttgart snap a losing run; Paderborn's search goes on

Stuttgart went into the round 15th on three points from four games, having lost their last two — at home to Hoffenheim and then at home again to Borussia Dortmund — sandwiched around a 4-1 win over Köln and an opening-day 1-5 defeat at Bayern Munich. The win at Paderborn is their first away from home in the league this season and snaps that two-game slide.

Paderborn, newly promoted, had gone into the weekend 13th on four points from four games on the back of a mixed run — a draw at Mainz, defeats to Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, then a 3-1 home win over Hoffenheim that had given them something to build on. This result undoes that momentum: Paderborn have now lost three of their five Bundesliga games back in the top flight.
