Juventus 0-3 Lazio: Gennaro Gattuso's side go unbeaten through seven and level on points with Inter
Oliver Provstgaard's header, a Gustav Isaksen strike and a stoppage-time goal from substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru gave Lazio a 3-0 win at the Allianz Stadium — their sixth win in seven league games under Gennaro Gattuso.
Juventus had not lost at the Allianz Stadium this season. Lazio ended that run comfortably. Oliver Provstgaard headed Lazio in front just before half-time, Gustav Isaksen doubled it in the 66th minute and substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru added a third in stoppage time, as Gennaro Gattuso's side won 0-3 in Turin without ever looking troubled.
Seven games, still unbeaten
Gattuso took over at Lazio in July, replacing Maurizio Sarri after a ninth-place finish last season, and his start has gone about as well as it could have. Lazio have now won six of their first seven Serie A games and lost none of them, a run that began with a 1-0 win at Bologna and has included wins over Genoa, Udinese, Venezia and Monza either side of a draw at AC Milan. Three points away at a Juventus side that had not lost at home all season is their most eye-catching result yet.
It was not the smoothest of starts. Gattuso's first game in charge was a Coppa Italia exit, beaten 2-0 at home by second-tier Mantova, and his Serie A bow came away at Bologna eight days later. The league form has gone the other way almost from the first whistle since, and a club that finished ninth under Sarri last season sits level with Inter at the top of the division seven matchdays into this one.
Juventus found nothing at home
For Luciano Spalletti's Juventus, the frustration was in how little they created. They had the better of possession at 57.7%, but managed only two shots on target across ninety minutes, with Lazio's back line — reinforced in the summer by the arrival of Danish centre-back Provstgaard — giving away almost nothing in behind. Provstgaard's opener came from a corner, rising above Juventus's marking to head in Mattia Zaccagni's delivery in the 37th minute; from there Juventus never really threatened to get back into the game, and Lazio picked them off twice more after the break.
A table that is starting to bunch at the top
The win takes Lazio to 19 points from seven games, level with Inter at the top of Serie A, with only goal difference — Inter's +12 to Lazio's +10 — keeping them off first place outright. AC Milan's win over Atalanta the same afternoon puts a club in third within three points of both of them. Juventus, by contrast, slip to 8th on 11 points from seven games, with as many losses now (two) as draws, and a finishing tally of nine goals in seven matches that suggests the issue in Turin is further up the pitch than it is at the back.
