Four goals inside 26 second-half minutes left Hull City and Everton sharing the points, 2-2, at the MKM Stadium on Sunday. Joe Gelhardt broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart, and nobody led by more than a single goal all afternoon.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall headed Everton level at 55', set up by Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Thierno Barry turned the game on its head 13 minutes later, finishing off a Dewsbury-Hall pass to put the visitors 2-1 up. Hull would not be shaken off. Substitute Mohamed Belloumi steered home Elliot Stroud's pass at 74' to make it 2-2, and that is how it stayed.

Form before the draw

Hull arrived without a win in three — draws at home to Aston Villa and away at Chelsea, then a defeat at Newcastle — and this latest 2-2 stretches that run to four games. Everton, by contrast, remain one of the division's hardest teams to beat: two wins and four draws from their first six league matches, with still no defeat on the board.

What's next

The point leaves Hull City 8th on 9 points, just outside the European places, while Everton stay 5th on 10 points, in the Europa League place and one spot outside the Champions League zone. Hull travel to Fulham on Saturday 17 October, and Everton host Chelsea at the Hill Dickinson Stadium the same afternoon.

Corrections

  • October 22, 2026: This report originally treated the top five as Champions League places (and the 6th-placed side as the Europa League spot). The 2026-27 allocation is four Champions League places and the Europa League for 5th; a fifth Champions League place exists only if England finishes among the top two associations in the 2026-27 UEFA coefficient. The wording has been corrected.
