The goalkeeper's afternoon
The figure that explains the scoreline is the one in the saves row. Elia Caprile made nine saves, against one by Juventus's Guglielmo Vicario, and Cagliari had two shots on target in the whole match, one of which was Maldini's goal. Juventus's xG of 1.92 against 0.51 says the draw flattered the home side, but the equaliser came late and only after Cagliari had defended for an hour with a lead.
Line-ups

Two runs, one point each
Cagliari have not lost since their opening defeat at home to Inter on 30 August: a 1-0 win at Parma came before it, then wins over Lecce, Atalanta and Udinese, and now a draw with Juventus makes it four matches unbeaten. Juventus's run reads W D L W D, with the 3-2 defeat at Sassuolo on 13 September the only loss, and the draw leaves them without back-to-back defeats.
What the result changes
Cagliari are 4th in Serie A with 13 points from six matches, behind only Inter and Lazio on 16 and Roma on 14, with four wins, a draw and a defeat. Juventus are 6th with 11 points from six, level on points with Como and a point behind AC Milan in 5th.
Corrections
- October 12, 2026: The earlier version gave Cagliari's pre-match record as three wins and a defeat from four matches and said they were unbeaten in their last three. They had played five, with four wins and a defeat, and were unbeaten in four. The scorers, line-ups and statistics were also missing and have been added.
