Nice end Lille's unbeaten start and their own winless run, 2-1

Nice had not won a single Ligue 1 match through four rounds. Lille had not lost one. Both of those things ended at the Allianz Riviera, where Nathan Ngoy turned the ball into his own net just before half-time, Mohamed Amoura added a second after the break, and Ayase Ueda's reply in the 79th minute arrived far too late to change the outcome. Nice won 2-1.

The own goal put the hosts ahead deep into first-half stoppage time, a rough way for Lille to go in at the break after controlling long stretches of the opening 45 minutes. Amoura made it 2-0 early in the second half — his first goal for the club — before Ueda pulled one back with eleven minutes left. Nice held on from there for their first three points of the campaign.

Amoura's goal was his first for the club since arriving on loan from VfL Wolfsburg with an option to buy, worth a reported €20m. The 26-year-old Algeria international had gone four Ligue 1 appearances without scoring since the move; his finish early in the second half was the moment that turned a nervy lead into a two-goal cushion Lille could not fully close down.

Nice's first win, after four matches without one

The context makes the result bigger than the scoreline suggests. Nice opened the season with a goalless draw against Lorient, lost 0-3 at Paris FC, drew 1-1 at home to Le Mans and then lost 0-1 at Auxerre — four matches, no wins, only one goal scored in all of them combined. Beating Lille is not just three points; it is the first time all season Nice have scored more than once in a match, and the first time they have won at all.

Lille's first defeat, after four matches without one

Lille had been the form side of the division coming in. They opened with a 2-0 win at Angers, drew 2-2 at home to PSG, beat Toulouse 1-0 away and put four unanswered goals nowhere near as costly past Troyes in a 2-0 home win — three wins and a draw from four league matches, unbeaten going into the trip to the Côte d'Azur. That run is now over, and so is a run of five straight goals without reply in the league: Lille had not conceded since the draw with PSG on matchday two.
