Donyell Malen scores twice as Roma cruise to a 4-0 win away at Lecce

Two matchdays into the season, Roma have scored eight goals and conceded none. Both wins have finished 4-0. Somebody is going to have to actually make this team work for a result eventually.

It was not Lecce, not on Monday night. Roma won 4-0 at the Via del Mare, with Donyell Malen scoring twice, Matías Soulé adding a third before the break and substitute Rodrigo Mora getting in on the act late on for his first goal in Italian football. 🐺

Malen strikes twice, Soulé cleans up the rebound

The opener came inside four minutes. Kialonda Gaspar failed to clear a loose ball cleanly, Malen pounced on it and beat Wladimiro Falcone from close range. 1-0, and Lecce's evening had barely started.

Malen was at it again on 23 minutes, this time at the end of a move involving Soulé and Wesley: the ball was worked to him from the left and he dinked it past Falcone from close range for 2-0.

Roma had their third moments later. Malen squared it for Soulé at the edge of the box, Falcone got a hand to the first effort, but Soulé followed up and turned the rebound in. 3-0, and that was the score at half-time.

Mora off the bench for his first Roma goal

The second half had less to decide, and Roma used it to give minutes to the bench. Rodrigo Mora was one of those introduced, and he made it count: his finish on 65 minutes made it 4-0 and was his first goal since arriving in Serie A.

Lecce, third-minute jitters aside, never really threatened Mile Svilar's goal. It is the kind of night Gian Piero Gasperini will have wanted early in the season — total control, a clean sheet, and goals shared around the squad rather than resting on one man.
