Cissè's stunner had Milan ahead at Juventus — Gatti's 90+2' header denied them

Two unbeaten sides, one moment of quality that nearly settled it, and a stoppage-time header that meant nobody left Turin happy or sad. Juventus and AC Milan drew 1-1 in a match both benches ended up deciding.

Ruben Amorim's substitutions did the damage first: Samuel Chukwueze's cross-field ball found Alphadjo Cissè, who controlled it dead, cut inside past Manuel Locatelli and drilled it through Pierre Kalulu's legs and into the far corner on 69'. It was Milan's first goal at Juventus since Olivier Giroud's in May 2023.

Gatti has the last word

Juventus needed a substitute of their own to save the point. Teun Koopmeiners swung in a cross in the second minute of stoppage time and found Federico Gatti unmarked at the back post, who headed it in to make it 1-1 — the last kick of a game that had been heading for a first home defeat of the season.

The bench that keeps deciding it

It continues a habit. A fortnight earlier, Juventus were goalless and being booed off at half-time against Parma before Luciano Spalletti turned to his bench: Nico Gonzalez broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, and Teun Koopmeiners added the second in the 88th. Koopmeiners was involved again here, supplying the stoppage-time cross that Gatti headed in for the equaliser — the same player with a hand in a decisive goal in back-to-back matchdays.

A lopsided scoreline for a game Juventus dominated

The stats tell a one-sided story that the score doesn't: Juventus had 14 shots to Milan's 3, five of them on target against Milan's one. Milan defended deep, absorbed almost everything else Juventus threw at them, and were seconds away from stealing all three points on the counter before Gatti intervened.

Two perfect starts, both built the hard way

Both sides walked into the Allianz Stadium unbeaten, but neither had made it look easy. Milan needed a double substitution just after the hour mark to turn a goalless game into a 2-1 win at Torino on the opening weekend, then needed 69 minutes and three missed chances from Gonçalo Ramos before breaking down Venezia 2-0 at San Siro. Juventus needed only a single Gleison Bremer header, from 20 shots, to win 1-0 at Frosinone, then were held scoreless by Parma for 45 minutes before two substitutes, Nico Gonzalez and Teun Koopmeiners, scored in the second half to make it 2-0. Two unbeaten records built on grinding rather than dominant performances, and this meeting produced exactly that kind of draw.

Cissè's breakout keeps going

Cissè's opener at the Allianz Stadium was his second goal already this season. He had also scored in the campaign opener at Torino, converting an Adrien Rabiot pass to make it 1-0 in the 64th minute — the same match in which an earlier effort of his had gone into the side-netting. Two goals from open play in Milan's first three matchdays, for a player still only 19 years old.
