Miguel Sierra's goal and an Angeliño red card end Deportivo's unbeaten run

Deportivo's unbeaten start to the season is over. Miguel Sierra scored the only goal of the game at Riazor in the 52nd minute, and seven minutes later the hosts were reduced to ten men when Angeliño was shown a straight red card, upgraded from a yellow after a VAR review of a challenge on Sierra. Sevilla saw out the final half hour a man to the good for a 1-0 win.

Deportivo coach Antonio Hidalgo said afterwards that the sending-off changed the game completely, pointing out how evenly matched the two sides had been up to that point. His team pushed for an equaliser for the rest of the match despite the numerical disadvantage, but Sevilla's defence, marshalled by Kike Salas and Andrés Castrín, did not break again.
