Celta Vigo thrash Racing Santander 5-0 for their first win of the season
Hugo González's penalty and a Pablo Durán brace were among five unanswered goals as Celta Vigo beat Racing Santander 5-0 at Balaídos, their first win in six league games this season.
Celta Vigo finally broke their winless run in emphatic fashion, beating Racing Santander 5-0 at Balaídos on Saturday. Hugo González opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Ilaix Moriba doubled it before the break, and Miguel Román and a Pablo Durán double turned a comfortable lead into a rout after half-time.

González's penalty, awarded after a VAR review for handball in the box, came in the 32nd minute; Moriba made it 2-0 with an individual effort three minutes before half-time. Racing never recovered, and Celta added three more after the break: Miguel Román on 69 minutes, then substitute Pablo Durán either side of stoppage time, in the 78th minute and again in second-half injury time.
A first win, at the sixth attempt
Celta had drawn three and lost two of their first five league games this season without a win — including scoreless draws against Valencia and Real Sociedad — and this was their first victory of the 2026-27 campaign. For Racing, promoted back to the top flight after 14 years away, it was a second successive heavy defeat: they shipped seven at home to Barcelona the previous week and now five at Balaídos, twelve goals conceded in two matches.
