Jaydee Canvot turned the ball into his own net in the 4th minute, Diego Gómez followed three minutes later from Olivier Boscagli's cross, and Yasin Ayari made it three in the 10th, assisted by Charalambos Kostoulas.

Kostoulas got on the scoresheet himself four minutes into the second half, and substitute Jack Hinshelwood completed the scoring with a volley in the 84th. Palace never found an answer: Brighton finished with 57.3% of the possession, 17 shots to 5, and nine of those on target to Palace's one.

An attack that keeps producing

Brighton's front line had already been among the division's most productive outside the top two, scoring 18 goals in six league games coming in. Five more against Palace continue a run that has brought three wins and 14 goals in the last five matches alone, with only a 3-4 defeat at Chelsea in Matchweek 2 to interrupt an otherwise one-sided sequence of results.

What this does to the table

Brighton had gone into the weekend third on 13 points from six games, level on points with Chelsea but well clear on goal difference. Saturday's win takes them to 16 points and a three-point cushion in third, while Crystal Palace, who had sat 13th on 7 points, stay on 7 but slip to 14th — the goal difference damage from Saturday, eight goals in a single afternoon, the heaviest swing of their season.

What's next

Brighton travel to Liverpool on Sunday 25 October, aiming to keep pace with the two clubs above them. Crystal Palace host Newcastle United the same afternoon, looking to put Saturday's result behind them.
