Bournemouth were seconds away from a first home win of Marco Rose's tenure, and Djordje Petrovic had done everything asked of him to get them there. James Tarkowski had other ideas, arrowing in an equaliser in the 91st minute to make it 1-1.
Alex Scott put the hosts ahead with a fine finish just before the break. Everton would have been level, or worse, much earlier had Petrovic not first denied Jarrad Branthwaite's header from a corner, then saved from Iliman Ndiaye, then produced a stunning double save — stopping a goal-bound effort from Tyrique George before getting up to deny Beto at point-blank range.
A penalty shout waved away
Everton's best appeal of the night came when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall went down in the box under a challenge from Bournemouth's James Hill. Referee Chris Kavanagh waved play on. Jordan Pickford, at the other end, did his job too, denying Rayan to keep Everton in it until Tarkowski's late intervention.
