Bayern Munich thrash Union Berlin 7-0 as Michael Olise scores a hat-trick and Harry Kane reaches 100 Bundesliga goals

Bayern Munich put on their biggest scoring display of the season so far, beating 1. FC Union Berlin 7-0 at the Allianz Arena on Friday to open Bundesliga matchday 4. Michael Olise scored his first hat-trick since joining the club, Harry Kane added two more and became the fastest player in Bundesliga history to reach 100 league goals, and Jamal Musiala and Ismael Saibari also got on the scoresheet as Bayern moved back to the top of the table.

Kane's record: 98 games to a century no one has beaten faster

The individual headline of the night belonged to Kane. His 39th-minute penalty, Bayern's third goal, was his 100th in the Bundesliga — reached in his 98th appearance in the competition, 31 games faster than the previous record, the 129 games Dieter Müller needed for Cologne in the 1970s. Kane struck again 15 minutes into the second half to move to 101, finishing off a low Olise cutback from close range. Since joining Bayern in 2023, Kane has scored in the league once every 78.3 minutes on average — a better rate than Erling Haaland (87), Robert Lewandowski (100) or Gerd Müller (105) managed across their own Bundesliga careers, and second only to Cristiano Ronaldo's 92-match run to a century in La Liga among Europe's top five leagues.

Musiala and Olise set the tone before the break

Bayern were ahead inside 18 minutes: Alphonso Davies teed up Jamal Musiala, who curled an unstoppable shot into the far top corner. Kane's penalty made it 2-0 at 39', and four minutes later Olise turned in a low finish set up by Musiala to send Bayern into halftime already 3-0 up. "Bayern have incredible quality as a team. They run hard and are a very good team," Union coach Mauro Lustrinelli said afterwards. "We gave them very little space in the first half, but they still scored two great long-range goals, plus the penalty."

The second half was worse for the visitors. Kane's second goal made it 4-0 in the 54th minute, Ismael Saibari — teed up by Davies, who provided three assists on the night — added a fifth in the 70th, and Olise completed his hat-trick with two goals in three minutes, at 73' and 76', both set up by fellow substitute Tom Bischof. "We immediately had the chance to score after half-time but didn't take it. We then made too many individual mistakes and were simply punished," Lustrinelli added.

A fourth straight defeat, and a system already under scrutiny

For Union Berlin, this was the third match in a row they have conceded at least three goals, and their form since the opening weekend has been miserable: a 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt was followed by a 0-4 loss at Bayer Leverkusen and a 1-3 home defeat to newly promoted Schalke, before Friday's 0-7. Lustrinelli, who arrived over the summer after winning the Swiss title with FC Thun, had switched Union from their long-standing back three to a back four this season — a change that has yet to produce a single clean sheet and has left a promotion-winning coach already facing pressure four games into his first Bundesliga campaign.

The win takes Bayern to 1st in the Bundesliga table with 10 points from four games (3 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses) and a goal difference of +12, the best in the league. Union Berlin drop to 16th, in the relegation play-off spot, with a single point from four matches and a goal difference of -13, the worst by some distance. Matchday 4 is still being played across the rest of the weekend, with eight more fixtures to come, so Friday's result is only the opening move of the round rather than the final picture — but it already puts real distance between the top and the bottom of the table.

Bookings went almost entirely against the visitors: Felix Uduokhai (38'), Rani Khedira (42') and substitute Livan Burcu (60') were all cautioned for Union, with only Dayot Upamecano (45+1') carded for Bayern before he was withdrawn at the break.

Bayern remain unbeaten through four games and now sit clear at the top with the rest of matchday 4 still to be completed around them — a warning sign for whoever is next to face a Kompany side that has scored 14 goals in its first four league matches. Union Berlin, without a win to their name and sitting in the drop zone, head back to Berlin needing to find defensive solidity fast before the gap at the bottom of the table grows any wider.
