Athletic Club score twice inside three second-half minutes and add a third to beat Atlético Madrid 3-0
Nico Williams and Robert Navarro struck within two minutes of the restart and Oihan Sancet added a third in the 90th minute as Athletic Club handed Atlético Madrid their first defeat of the season, despite Atlético's dominance in possession.
Atlético Madrid had almost two-thirds of the ball at San Mamés and still left with nothing. Athletic Club needed three clinical minutes either side of half-time to settle it.
Nico Williams headed Athletic in front thirty seconds into the second half, and two minutes later Robert Navarro doubled the lead with a left-footed finish from a fast break set up by Iñaki Williams. Oihan Sancet added a third in the 90th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Atlético had the better of the possession and out-shot the hosts 15 to 11, but converted none of their attempts on target. Athletic, by contrast, made their spells of pressure count — a pattern that has repeated across their opening matchdays.
