AC Milan 3-0 Lecce: Christian Pulisic ends a lean run with his first goal since 2025

AC Milan needed a response, and they delivered one at San Siro. Christian Pulisic put his side ahead in the 14th minute, Adrien Rabiot doubled it just after the hour, and substitute Diego Moreira added a third with twelve minutes to go, as Ruben Amorim's side beat Lecce 3-0 to end a run of two straight draws in Serie A and shake off a midweek Europa League defeat at home to Benfica.

Pulisic's first goal since 2025

It was Pulisic's first Milan goal since 2025, after a red-hot start to last season had gone quiet. He controlled a raking pass from Strahinja Pavlovic with a single touch, shifted it onto his left foot and drilled it into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Rabiot made it two in the 61st minute, finishing off a quick exchange involving Gonçalo Ramos, and Moreira settled it in the 73rd after Ramos knocked a long ball into his path, sprinting clear to slot past Wladimiro Falcone.

A response Amorim needed

The three points mattered as much for the manner as for the scoreline. Milan had drawn 1-1 at Juventus and 2-2 at home to Lazio in their previous two league games, then lost 2-0 to Benfica in the Europa League in midweek — enough for questions to start forming about Amorim's start in Serie A despite an unbeaten opening month in the league. None of those results were league defeats, but conceding a two-goal cushion against Lazio in particular had left the team searching for the kind of performance they produced here: 68.8% possession and control of the game from the opening whistle.

A ground Lecce rarely score at

Lecce also had injuries working against them, missing Willem Geubbels, Omri Gandelman and Medon Berisha, with Tiago Gabriel unavailable through a neck injury. It extended a longer run at this stadium: Lecce have not scored at San Siro since October 2019, and left it again without troubling the scoreboard, even if their five shots on target from six attempts showed they were not entirely toothless.

Where it leaves both clubs

Before this round, Guriball's table had Milan third and unbeaten in the league, with Lecce well adrift in the bottom half. The result keeps Milan third with 11 points from five matches — three wins, two draws, no defeats — and inside the Champions League places, three points behind co-leaders Roma and Inter. Lecce stay 12th with six points from four games (they still have a fixture in hand from an earlier postponement), closer to mid-table than to the relegation zone, but three defeats in five outings show a side that needs to defend better than it did for large stretches of this one.

Both sides go into the international break with time to think things over. Amorim gets a fortnight to build on a squad that has now gone five matches without a Serie A defeat, while Lecce will use the break to get their injury list back before returning to try to close the gap on the teams above them.
