Lille lead 2-0 at 84 minutes and finish level: PSG score twice in stoppage time

With six minutes left Lille were 2-0 up, PSG had 73% of the ball and nothing to show for it, and the Pierre-Mauroy was in the middle of the best night of its season so far.

Then Vitinha hit one from outside the box into the top corner at 90+1'. Four minutes later Marquinhos met his corner with a header. 2-2, and a stadium that had been celebrating for eighty-four minutes went home with a point.

Giroud made both of them

Olivier Giroud assisted the lot. Hákon Arnar Haraldsson opened it at 21', again from outside the area and again into the top corner. Dilane Bakwa finished left-footed at 84' for what looked like the goal that settled it.

Two goals from nine shots, against a side with eighteen. Lille had 27% of the ball, 249 accurate passes and not a single corner all evening. For eighty-four minutes it was working perfectly.

The last five minutes

PSG's 1.29 expected goals is a modest number for that much territory — most of the 73% went sideways. What changed the game was two finishes of a quality Lille had no answer to, from a midfielder and a centre-back.

Benjamin André, booked at 52', was sent off at 90+5' after already being substituted. It was that kind of ending.
